Principal Automation Engineer
The Principal Automation Engineer is a senior technical leader within a Global Infrastructure Services (GIS) organization, responsible for defining automation standards, architecture, and strategic direction across networking, servers, databases, middleware, storage, backups, and cloud platforms. This role designs and governs scalable, secure, and intelligent automation solutions integrated with cloud platforms and ServiceNow to modernize infrastructure operations and enable global self-service at scale. Responsibilities: - Define enterprise automation and AI strategy, standards, and reference architectures for global infrastructure services.
- Design and implement multi-layer automation across infrastructure, cloud platforms, and ITSM workflows.
- Partner with Principal Engineers across Cloud Platform, Network, Middleware, Enterprise Architecture (EA), and the AI Center of Excellence (AI COE).
- Integrate automation with ServiceNow to enable catalog-driven provisioning, orchestration, and closed-loop remediation.
- Apply AI/ML, agentic automation, and intelligent workflows to infrastructure and operational use cases.
- Establish governance, security, reliability, and financial guardrails for automation and AI solutions.
- Evaluate financial implications of architectural decisions, balancing cost, scalability, risk, and long-term value.
- Serve as a senior technical authority, mentoring engineers and influencing teams across global regions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in enterprise-scale infrastructure and cloud automation.
- Proven expertise across multiple automation layers (IaC, orchestration, workflows, pipelines, AI-enabled automation).
- Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and ServiceNow integration.
- Experience applying AI or intelligent automation within infrastructure or operational environments.
- Strong understanding of cost modeling, FinOps concepts, and financial impacts of technology decisions.
- Ability to lead through influence and collaborate effectively across global infrastructure teams.
- Expert Communication: Capability to bridge the gap between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, translating complex data into actionable insights.
- Strategic Leadership & Mentoring: The ability to mentor junior engineers, define technical roadmaps, and influence engineering decisions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working effectively across disciplines & teams.
